Iron Age Steel and Bronze Spearhead, Central AsiaAsia, Iron Age culture, ca. 800–200 BCE. A leaf-shaped spearhead forged from carbon steel, with a broad blade tapering to a point and a central ridge. Below the blade is a cast leaded bronze collar, with a green mineral patina, which anchored the head to its haft and reinforced the join. The iron tang extends beyond the collar, with a heavily encrusted, corroded surface consistent with long burial. The combination of steel blade and bronze fitting reflects a metallurgical tradition suited to weapons of this type, with the form shaped by functional requirements of thrust and penetration. Size: 15.1" L x 1.1" W (38.4 cm L x 2.8 cm W).

Provenance: private Marysville, Washington, USA collection; ex-private Seattle, Washington, USA collection, acquired 1970-2000 via US and online auctions
