Ironstone Tureen & Octagonal Underplate

A two-piece white glazed ironstone service set consisting of a large footed soup tureen with a matching lid and a coordinating octagonal underplate. The tureen features an oval body with two applied scroll-shaped handles. Its domed lid is topped with a molded ring-style finial featuring foliate accents at the base. The accompanying platter is octagonal with clipped corners. The base of the tureen features an impressed mark (photo 4); the bottom line of text reads IRONSTONE in capital letters, while the line of characters above it begins with the letter M but is otherwise not clearly legible as a name. No marks are visible on the underside of the platter (photo 3). Platter: approximately 15.75 inches in length across the longest point (photo 3) Tureen: approximately 12.5 inches in width across the handles (photo 5) Overall height: approximately 8.5 inches to the top of the lid finial (photo 6).
