Iroquois trade bead sewing small kit circa 1900

Title: Iroquois trade bead sewing small kit circa 1900
Dimension: 4” (10.2 cm) wide x 2 1/2“ (6.4 cm) tall x 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) thick. Weighs 2.3 oz (65 g)
Provenance: A souvenir sewing kit made for the tourist trade by the Iroquois many, many years ago. The raised bead design on cotton fabric shows so much hand work and expertise. Blue cotton cloth with white fabric make the outer covering. Clear beads have been heavily applied in a leaf and bud pattern on the entire front. Clear blue beads were used for accent. Small white beads have been applied in rows to the sides. A rope of clear and blue beads forms a handle. The inside of the kit has a raised pillow for a pincushion and a pocket. The inner lining is a stained brown color. There is a metal hook with a corresponding metal loop for a fastener. A piece of American history that was for decoration and for necessity. I love how the beads have a raised 3d look.
