The present painting was long attributed to Isack van Ostade, as it still was in 1982 by J. Müller-Hofstede. M. de Kinkelder, however, proposed the Haarlem painter Nicolaes Fick as the artist (RKD image archive, The Hague), whilst Fred G. Meijer identifies the artist of this painting as belonging to the circle of Isack van Ostade.
