Closely associated with the Dendermonde School, he evolved toward an Expressionist style in the 1920s, characterized by powerful landscapes and dynamic skies in the tradition of Constant Permeke. Settling in Knokke in 1929, he devoted himself to polder landscapes, seascapes, and floral still lifes, imbued with a deep Flemish sensibility. His works are included in several public collections: the museums of Antwerp, Brussels, and the Belgian government; Dendermonde; the ADVN Collection; and the United Nations building in New York.
