Islamic Bowl Fragment with Qur'anic Verses

13th-14th century AD. A substantial fragment of a large shallow bronze bowl with perpendicular rim, concentric rings of low-relief ornament comprising an outer ring with radiating repeated panel motif; band of hatched foliage with reserved Kufic script; band of hatched foliage with reserved annulets and running animals; band of scrolled foliage; band of Kufic script reserved on a hatched field. These beautiful engraved dishes and their detailed ornamentation were known from Damascus to Baghdad. A bowl in the Berlin Museum displays similar decorative forms composed of interlace with animals and horsemen.
