Islamic Bronze Scythian helmet type Koban - 21×18×14 cm - (1)

RARE SCYTHIAN BRONZE HELMET, 7th - 6th century BC Origin: Northern Black Sea region The dome was cast from a piece of bronze. Lower edge with holes to attach leather-cheeks and neck protection. The helmet is attributed to the Kuban type according to the classification of B. Z. Rabinovich. The author describes this helmet as a kind of early Archaic and is dated to the 7th to 6th century BC. This type of bronze helmet was characteristic of early Scythian Panoply. Characterised by a rounded crown with a roller, which runs along the axis of the front wall of the skull and ends with a small lug or a small loop. The face hole is framed by the rimmed edge of the eye, which converges to the bridge of the nose and forms a nose lug. The thickness of the walls is 3 - 3. 5 mm, weight 1. 4 - 1. 9 kg. There is no evidence that the Scythians used helmets of any other type except for the Kuban in the 7th century BC. Height 14 cm, length 21 cm, width 18 cm Weight 1404 g Very good overall condition. no restoration or replacement. Original dark and green patina. Provenance: Private collection (M.
