Islamic Forger's Coin Die

c.9th-10th century AD. A roughly rectangular bifacial limestone block: to one face is carved a geometric form with triangular head, crescent and disc to either arm; to the other are two coin moulds, possibly for dinars, an incomplete third, accompanied by branches with small discs and teardrop embellishments, drilled in various places. 180 grams, 10cm (4"). UK private collection acquired 1980-1983. [No Reserve]
