Islamic Forger's Coin Die
c.9th-10th century AD. A roughly rectangular bifacial limestone block: to one face is carved a geometric form with triangular head, crescent and disc to either arm; to the other are two coin moulds, possibly for dinars, an incomplete third, accompanied by branches with small discs and teardrop embellishments, drilled in various places. 180 grams, 10cm (4").
