Israel 9th Independence Day, 1957: two official first day covers of the 250 pr. "9"...

[ translate ]

Two official first day covers of the Philatelic Service for the 9th Independence Day stamp (250 pr., the figure 9 drawn in the sky of Israel by the trail of a jet plane), with the tab "Independence Day, Memorial Day for the Fallen of the War of Independence, 5717 1957". Both with the cachet "Day of Issue" and the Jerusalem 33 postmark, 28 Nisan 5717, 29.4.57.

1. The normal cover: a two-colour design, a ring of ten Stars of David in gold around a blue disc reading "5708 5717", and at lower right the deer emblem "Israel Post" in blue.

2. The error: a cover from the same printing on which the blue colour was not printed at all. Only the ten gold stars remain, with an empty centre: no blue disc, no "5708 5717" inscription, and the Israel Post deer emblem is missing too. The blue printing is gone entirely while the gold is in place, meaning the envelope passed through the press only once, in gold. The error is obvious the moment the two covers are laid side by side, as shown here.

Both covers complete, unaddressed. Light age spots, exactly as photographed.

Condition Report:
The accompanying photographs constitute an integral part of the item description and complement the written information.
