Italiaanse school - Aeneas ontvlucht brandende Troy
An exceptional masterpiece from the Italian school - ca. 1720. Aeneas flees Troy while its burning. Aeneas is carrying his father Anchises while bystanders are witnessing the foreboding event. Aeneas gets the full treatment in Roman mythology, most extensively in Virgil's Aeneis, in which he is featured as an ancestor of Romulus and Remus. He became the first true hero of Rome. This was probably part of a larger work. The wooden nail is still in place in the work and was a series of smaller panels. The wooden panel is surrounded by an 18th century gilded frame. Origin: a very important private collection. Carefully packaged shipment. The photos are part of the description.
