Italian Baroque Giltwood Mirror
Italian Baroque Giltwood Mirror
first half 18th century, the pierced surround decorated with scrollwork and leaves, accented with swags of flowerheads, with carved putti on each side and in the grape-carved crest, the finial carved with a bird eating grapes, set with a beveled mirror plate.
h. 60", w. 40-1/2"
Condition Report: **In overall good condition, with no missing or replaced elements to the frame. The mirror plate is likely a late 19th-century replacement. The gold leaf surface is mostly intact, but there are scattered hair cracks and scattered touch-ups executed with radiator paint. The right side cherub has some flaking surface, still mostly intact. The lower surround has significant repaired flaking as does the lower pierced portion of the frame with hair cracks on leaves and scrollwork. The rabbet is 37" x 27".
