Italian Carved White Marble Pedestal
Italian Carved White Marble Pedestal
ca. 1900, the neoclassical-style pedestal carved with putti, the base carved with swags of flowers and supported on paw feet, the tapered upper standard carved with acanthus leaves and having a circular top.
h. 62-1/2", dia. 17"
Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.
Condition Report: In overall good condition. The piece exhibits some normal light staining and minor chips and flakes to the edges of the carved surfaces. The piece comes in segments. It is functional with them placed one atop the other, but would be sturdier if plaster were added at those joints. There is a reattached chip at the base of an upper section, about 3" wide and 1" deep. There are some chips and flakes around the base of the section the putti are on, near their feet. Some appear to be chip-carved by design, others appear to be incidental later chips.
