Italian Renaissance coffer
Emilia Romagna 17th century. A front support construction, in walnut and oak, with a gable-shaped lid, with serpentine moulded and carved decorative panels, attached with metal nails. Ca. 111 x 140 x 60 cm. Some wood parts and nails replaced, some ageing and wear. (DOC)
An example of the widespread and consistent presence of the classic “Dachtruhe”, which in this case was used to store flour (Madia emiliana).
