Italian Style Mid-Century Reclining Folding Lounging Chair in Tan Vinyl.
A single vintage reclining folding armchair, likely of Italian manufacture, dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The chair features a tubular metal frame with a chrome-plated finish, designed with a multi-position reclining mechanism operated by lifting the armrests. The upholstery consists of a padded tan vinyl seat and backrest, detailed with a heat-pressed grid-patterned quilting to the front surface. The reverse of the backrest is finished in a contrasting dark brown fabric, which is secured to the frame. The internal support structure for the backrest includes visible zig-zag tension springs. The frame is constructed with a scissor-action folding mechanism using metal rivets and pivots, allowing the chair to be stored flat. Plastic floor protector caps are fitted to the base of the frame. No legible maker's marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the frame or upholstery.
More Information
The chair is in used vintage condition. There is significant cracking and material loss to the vinyl upholstery on the leading edges of both armrests (photo 1 and photo 4). Small punctures and scuffs are visible to the vinyl on the seat and backrest surfaces (photo 1). The metal frame shows signs of oxidation and light pitting throughout, consistent with age and outdoor use (photo 2 and photo 3). The dark brown backing fabric shows light fading and general wear (photo 3). The plastic feet caps are present but show signs of abrasion (photo 7). The reclining and folding mechanisms appear functional.
