Italian Venetian Rococo Style King Size Carved Painted Headboard

Large Italian Venetian Rococo style king size headboard with an elaborate carved and pierced crest finished in a softly distressed pale blue-green paint with contrasting cream highlights. The dramatic upper section is composed of sweeping C-scrolls, rocaille shells, scrolling acanthus foliage, floral carvings, and openwork decoration arranged symmetrically around a prominent central cartouche-shaped panel. The center panel is faced in a light figured veneer or decorative wood panel and is framed by deeply molded foliate carving, while shaped side panels continue the curving Rococo profile across the width. A large scallop-shell crest crowns the headboard, with additional shell and floral motifs repeated throughout the openwork carving. The lower portion is formed by substantial fluted vertical supports and horizontal framing intended to mount behind a king size bed. The reverse shows traditional framed wood construction with applied carved elements and rear support members. The painted surface has an intentionally aged, antiqued appearance, emphasizing the depth of the carving. Condition includes scattered scuffs, scratches, rubbing, small nicks, finish wear, and minor edge losses consistent with age and use, particularly toward the lower legs and exposed carved areas.
