Cain stands over his brother with his arms raised, ready to kill him with a log in the next moment. Abel is lying on the ground, supporting himself with his left arm and raising his right arm in supplication. With his head thrown back, his face shows fear of the blow. In the background burns on the altar the sacrifice of Abel, who sacrificed the firstborn of his flock to God. The whole scene is characterized by a dramatic tenebrismo.
