Italian school of the early 20th century. "Woman with pitcher". Marble. Signed on the base.
Italian school of the early 20th century.
"Woman with pitcher".
Marble.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 88 cm (height).
Female sculpture carved in marble, of delicate workmanship and classical inspiration.
The water carrier holds the pitcher on her right shoulder, giving her body a slight inclination inspired by the Greek contrapposto. The dress folds naturally to the rhythm of the subtle movement of the body. The sculptor has impressed on the marble a ductility that denotes a masterful command of the material. This can be seen, for example, in the drapery that hangs from the waist and ends in a delicate fringe. Beneath the long, flowing skirt, a pair of small bare feet can be seen. The young woman's features, enhanced by the knotted scarf around her neck, are harmonious and precise.
