The artist's signature is found on another minting cylinder (not sold in this lot) as, on the finished medal, it appears in negative, i. e. engraved signature, compared to the relief of the subject.

As with the signature, the person who commissioned the work is also absent on the punch as it is engraved in negative and therefore present on the minting cylinder.

The dimensions of the cylinder are: 85*85*50 mm while the punch is 60*4 mm

Arnaldo Pomodoro is an Italian sculptor and goldsmith. He is considered one of the greatest contemporary Italian sculptors, well known and appreciated abroad too. He is the older brother of Giorgio "Giò" Pomodoro, also a sculptor.

His art in the balance between the external geometries and the internal mechanisms of his monumental works, more suited to his expressive abilities than those of small dimensions, which do not allow him to investigate inside the represented subject.
His works are present in various cities around the world, such as Lampedusa, Sorrento, Rimini, Pesaro, Genoa, Rome, Milan, Pavia, Terni, Turin, Tivoli, Belluno, San Giovanni Rotondo (in the basilica of Padre Pio by Renzo Piano) Copenhagen , Brisbane, Dublin (in Trinity College) , Los Angeles, as well as appearing at Mills College in California, in the Pigna Courtyard of the Vatican Museums, in the major world museums and at the UN.
