Sheet: 13 3/4 x 20 inches.
Sheet is free and in direct contact with frame glass; light burn around image perimeter; approximately 1/2" x 5" of vertical water staining along upper left edge; minor cracking of white gouache in upper right corner; minor frame abrasions along margins, visible only in raking light; verso bears dirt residue overall and tape remnants along edges. Additional images available upon request.

After the death of his mother in 1938, Ivan, his twin Malvin, and their father, Adam Emory Ablright, escaped to Maine, turning to their art to deal with the grief. Ivan continued to visit Maine thereafter throughout his life. In 1940, he visited Corea, Maine, where he worked mainly in gouache. The mood in the present work is one of mediation and calm reflectiveness.
