Technique: Steel engraving and Etching on Paper, mounted on Paper

Inscription: Titled and inscribed below the image: "Ob. 1649.", "From the Original of Vandyke, in the Collection of / His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch.", production details: "Engraved by C. Cochran." as well as: "London, Published June 1, 1832, by Harding & Lepard, Pall Mall East". Portrait engraving in stipple manner, very fine and detailed representation! Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland (1590-1649), English courtier, peer, politician and officer; he was also one of the many lovers of Marie de Rohan. John Cochran, British miniature painter, copper and steel engraver, active in London between 1821 and 1855, created portraits of many important contemporaries such as that of Queen Victoria at the age of 18 or King William IV. The National Portrait Gallery lists 61 portraits by Cochran. Of particular note are the engravings for book editions of Burke's "Gall. of distinguished females", Locker's "Naval commanders" and Pettigrew's "Medical portr.gall.", 1839. After the painting by Anthony van Dyck, court painter to King Charles I of England; published by Harding & Lepard.
