Description: From: "Nouveau recueil d'ostéologie et de myologie dessiné d'après nature par Jacques Gamelin de Carcassonne, ..pour l'utilité des sciences et des arts divisé en deux parties dédié à M. le baron de Puymaurin". Signed "Gamelin f. / Martin inc." below the image within the printing plate. Jacques GAMELIN was a French painter, draughtsman, engraver and etcher of early classicism. Gamelin first studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Toulouse under Jean-Pierre Rivalz. His artistic training continued in Paris and Rome, where he worked as a professor at the Accademia di San Luca from 1771. One year later, Pope Clement XIV appointed him court painter. Gamelin also met the painter Anton Raphael Mengs in Rome.

Condition: Good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet slightly discoloured due to its age, slightly foxed in places. Traces of creasing in the upper centre margin - extending into the image; horizontal crease in the right margin.
