Description: From: "Nouveau recueil d'ostéologie et de myologie dessiné d'après nature par Jacques Gamelin de Carcassonne, ..pour l'utilité des sciences et des arts divisé en deux parties dédié à M. le baron de Puymaurin". Signed "Gravé a l'eau forte par Lavalée d'apres le dessein de M. Gamelin a Toulouse" in the lower plate margin, dated "1778" to the right. Jacques GAMELIN was a French painter, draughtsman, engraver and etcher of early classicism. Gamelin first studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Toulouse under Jean-Pierre Rivalz. His artistic training continued in Paris and Rome, where he worked as a professor at the Accademia di San Luca from 1771. One year later, Pope Clement XIV appointed him court painter.
