Inscription: lower left signed in the printing plate: "J. Mechau fece". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Avanzi dell'aqua Marzia Claudiae dell'Aniene vecchio fuori di Porta St. Giovanni". lower left dated: "Roma 1793".

Date: 1799

Description: The precise etching shows the ruins of the ancient Aqua Marcia, visible in a pastoral scenario. Aqueduct elements and fragmented architecture are depicted in detail against a horizon under a cloudy sky. Probably a later print for the French-language edition of the "Malerisch radirte Prospekte von Italien".
