JACK B. YEATS, R.H.A. | THE POETIC MORNING

[ translate ]

JACK B. YEATS, R.H.A.
1871-1957
THE POETIC MORNING

signed l.l.: JACK B/ YEATS; titled on the reverse: THE POETIC/ MORNING
oil on board
23 by 36.5cm., 9 by 14½in.
Painted in 1945.

Condition Report:
The board shows signs of blistering, notably in the upper half of the picture. This has resulted in horizontal ridges to the paint surface, which would benefit from being stabilised. Otherwise the works retains rich passages of impasto.

Ultraviolet light reveals areas of retouching across the sky and within the landscape in the background, corresponding to the blistering. These retouchings could be improved with restoration. There is also a small area of retouching to lower-right of the figure's left shoulder and another to the lower edge below it. Some small spots in the lower right corner and a horizontal line approx. 2cm extending from lower right edge.

Held in a gilt wood frame under glass; unexamined out of frame
