A Flemish painter, Jacob van der Kerckhoven is regarded as one of the most prominent still life and animal specialists active during the turn of the 18th Century. After training in Antwerp, Belgium, he became active in the Veneto region of Italy, where he also became known as Giacomo da Castello.
