Lawrence's involvement in the War of 1812 is most notable for his dying charge "Don't Give Up the Ship!" Delicately inscribed on verso from one brother to another: "Oliver G. Nolen presented by his brother, James H. Nolen, June 1817, during a visit to Philadelphia from Boston.) Fine craquelure, loss to verso. VF. Rex & Patti Stark Collection. Bears famous 1812 motto.
