JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE ARTICLES, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each approximately one-gallon capacity, comprising a ovoid form jug with collared mouth, strap handle, and incised shoulder ring and a ovoid form jar with squared rim, beaded neck ring, and arched handles. Jug with brushed cobalt spitting tulip decoration and jar with horizontal floral decoration to both sides, each with additional cobalt at handle terminals. Jug attributed to Samuel Frayser (c. 1787-1849), Henrico Co., jar attributed to Richmond Factory, John P. Schermerhorn (1788-1850). 1817-1850.

Condition: Jar with a few minor to moderate flakes to base with moderate medial wear, otherwise undamaged; jug having chips to mouth, minor chip to handle, and moderate flake to base with associated hairlines. Manufacturing imperfections, as made.

Size: Jug 11" H, jar 9 7/8" H, 5 1/4" D rim.
