JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form having collared mouth with single incised shoulder ring. Brushed cobalt horizontal tulip decoration on front, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Possibly Richmond Factory, John P. Schermerhorn (1788-1850) or Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico Co., Virginia. 1817-1863.
Condition: Shallow chip to mouth, lacking handle with white paint flecks and medial wear. Stacking scars to shoulder, as made.
