JAN BAPTIST BOSSCHAERT
Antwerp 1667 - 1746
Still life of flowers including tulips, roses, and turban rannunuculous, in a stone urn decorated with putti, all on a stone ledge

signed lower right: Bosshaert
oil on canvas, with extensions of 8.9 cm. at the left and right margins, and 4 cm. at the upper margin
141.4 by 85cm.; 55⅝ by 33 1/2in.

Condition Report:
The painting is lined, the canvas is lined and the varnish is discoloured. Retouching is visible along the extensions along all four margins, as well as to a repaired Q-shape centre right, and scattered in small, insignificant areas in the background. There is slight lifting in the paint surface in the head of the left putto in the vase, and in the bowl of the vase lower centre. Inspection under ultraviolet light is impeded by the milky varnish, which fluoresces opaquely but confirms the aforementioned retouchings, including small spots scattered in the still life. Any older restoration is impossible to discern, but the painting would appear to be largely untouched. In overall good condition.

"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."
