JAN DE BISSCHOP (1628-1671), 'Polyphemus', etching, circa 1671, monogrammed in plate lower right, plate 15.5 x 12 cm, framed 35.5 x 31 cm. From: Paradigmata graphices variorum artificum. Polyphemus was the giant son of Poseidon and Thoosa in Greek mythology, one of the Cyclopes described in Homer�s Odyssey. His name means 'abounding in songs and legends'.
