JAN DIRKSZ BOTH
Utrecht 1618 - 1652
A HILLY ITALIAN LANDSCAPE WITH TRAVELERS

Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This work is in beautiful condition. It is painted on a large panel made from three pieces of wood. There is one horizontal join through the sky and another immediately above the figure on the donkey. There are hardly any retouches at all, which is notable for a work of this period. There are a few retouches in the darkest colors in the lower left and lower right. Some thinness at the top of the hilltop in the upper right has been reduced with careful retouching. The lower of the two joins has opened very slightly from the right edge, and there is a restoration of about 3 inches long addressing this small crack. The work should be hung as is.

"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
