Striking Japanese Chokin Art Gallery jewelry or trinket box by Precious Art Inc., constructed with thick beveled glass panels framed in gold-tone metal and raised on four ball feet. The hinged lid centers an elaborate hand-engraved floral Chokin panel depicting large peony-like blossoms and foliage accented in gold, silver and soft colored metallic tones. Japanese characters and an artist's monogram/signature appear at the lower right of the decorative panel. The original underside CHOKIN ART GALLERY / PRECIOUS ART INC. / MADE IN JAPAN label explains the traditional process as hand engraving and tooling with layers of gold and silver applied to copper and acid-treated to create the sculptural image.
