JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD SATSUMA PORCELAIN JAR, baluster form with expressive figural guardian lion / foo dog handles, featuring polychrome hand-painted images including several figures wearing colorful robes, some soldiers in armor, and each side with a bright spread-wing Hou-ou / Hoo-oo bird to neck. Having a red hand-brushed six character mark to underside. 1868-1912. 15 3/4" H, 8" D rim.
Condition Report: Mostly undamaged except having a shallow rim chip with some old painted restoration and some scattered wear to gilt decorations.
