JAPANESE MESS KIT WITH COLD WEATHER INSULATED BAG

Japanese mess kit/rice cooker with winter insulated cover, in three aluminum pieces with canvas cover. All three aluminum pieces have the same manufacturer's imprint and the bottom of the pail is marked in black kanji. The heavily padded cover made of cotton canvas cinches snugly around the assembled kit with a rope tie, with two webbed tie downs on the front, and the entirety is carried with either the webbed shoulder strap included or tied to another piece of equipment with the vertical flat loop on the front. The cover bag is faintly marked in black kanji on the interior of the upper cover. The mess kit, in unused condition, is easily removable from the cover which bears slight loss to the interior canvas liner flap. This item was likely intended for use in cold weather encountered in either China or the Aleutian Islands. The aluminum kit measures 5.75 x 7 x 4 in. The insulation in the canvas bag is approximately 1 inch thick and has two lids, with one inner attached padded cotton piece for use with the lid open and the exterior canvas double tie down cover, similarly padded.
