Three col. woodcuts (forming a triptych). Signed “Yoshu Chikanobu” in the block. Publ. by Fukuda Hatsujirô (ca. 1895). Ca. 34 x 71 cm. (image). Behind passepartout & framed (behind glass).

¶ Very rare late 19th-cent. triptych by the Japanese artist Toyohara Chikanobu (also known as Yôshû Chikanobu, 1838-1912) depicting a historical battle scene with the Japanese warrior Sasaki Takatsuna (1160-1214) possibly during the Genpei War (an armed conflict between the Minamoto and Taira clans in the period 1180-1185). – A few imperfections (2 vertical folds in the image, occ. sl. discol., occ. sl. creased in outer parts), but nevertheless in good condition (not examined out of frame).
