JAPANESE TAISHO BRONZE TAKARABUNE BOAT MARKED
A Japanese cast bronze model of a boat. Taisho era, 1912 to 1949. Green patina, gilt deck details. The piece represents a Takarabune, the mythical Treasure Ship of Japanese folklore which is piloted through the heavens by the Seven Lucky Gods during the first three days of the New Year. A picture of the ship forms an essential part of traditional Japanese New Year celebrations. This figurine could be used as festive decoration or as a censer. Traces of makers marks on the bottom.
