J.C. Karel Klinkenberg (1852-1924) - Grachtgezicht te Amsterdam

[ translate ]

\Artist: J. C. Karel Klinkenberg (1852-1924)
Technique: Watercolour\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 50_66_5_cm
J. C. K. Klinkenberg specialised in the historic cityscape, often sun-drenched, the facades reflecting in the water of a canal or inner harbour. Contemporaries admired the sunlight effect in his paintings: a strong, brilliant light, which greatly illuminated the white sandstone and red brick of the Old Dutch facades. Countless Dutch cities have been immortalised by Klinkenberg. The topographical recognisability and the style that is somewhere between Romanticism and Impressionism give him a worthy place in the rich tradition of Dutch architectural painting. The offered painting shows a view on a canal in Amsterdam, a recurring theme in his works. The work is framed in a handmade, bronze/gold-coloured frame with inlay. The work is signed on the bottom right. The watercolour is in good condition, slightly discoloured over time. Dimensions image: 36 x 52 cm. Provenance: from a private collection. Viewing of the lot is of course possible. All contact information can be found on our own website.
