Note:
JCJ Vanderheyden is one of the most unconventional Dutch artists of his time. He dedicated his life to investigating space and the dimensions of visual perspectives by using a broad range of media.
For this painting, Vanderheyden uses his favourite chess board pattern, a symbol of repetition and reproduction, in which he studies phenomena such as light, space, time and perception.

Since participating in the Documenta in Kassel in 1982, his work has been exhibited in various prominent museums, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
