JEAN-BAPTISTE-CAMILLE COROT | SOUVENIR DU LAC DE NÉMI. BATALIERS À LA RIVE

[ translate ]

Property from a Distinguished Private Collection
JEAN-BAPTISTE-CAMILLE COROT
French
1796 - 1875
SOUVENIR DU LAC DE NÉMI. BATALIERS À LA RIVE

signed COROT (lower right)
oil on canvas
15¼ by 21⅜ in.
38.7 by 54.3 cm

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: Not examined out of the frame. This work is in good condition. The canvas has an old glue lining. There are remnants of old varnish in the lower left corner and on the right edge, but these are only visible under ultraviolet light. Two vertical cracks have been retouched in the center of the sky. There are two other retouched vertical cracks in the lower right sky, one of which runs through the lake almost to the bottom edge. The branches of the trees read strongly under ultraviolet light, as do some of the profiles of the leaves against the sky, but these do not correspond to retouches. The work should be hung in its current state.

"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
