A SILVER PRE-BALANCE SPRING VERGE WATCH WITH CALENDAR
CIRCA 1660

• Movement: gilded full plate, verge escapement, decoratively pierced and engraved screwed-on balance cock, plain flat steel balance, worm and wheel set-up, fusee and gut line, baluster pillars, signed Jean Gaspard Girod
• Dial: gilded engraved with cherubs and scroll decoration, aperture to the top for months with the number of days in each, subsidiary dial to the right indicating the age and phase of the moon, left hand subsidiary for date, bottom dial for hours with Roman numerals and aperture for signs of the zodiac
• Case: plain silver case, later associated silver and under-painted horn outer case with polychrome enamel scene depicting two classical figures within a landscape

Condition Report:
Movement: not running, gut line detached, balance rotates when power is applied to the train
Dial: tarnishing to the subsidiary dial for the hours, later hands, hand missing for the date indication
Case: tarnished and with scuffs throughout, later stem and bow. Later associated outer heavily tarnished, cracks to the tortoiseshell. Extensive damage to the enamel scene
