Inscribed with quote from poem, "The Coast-Road", pg. 87, to Albert Bender at Tor House, Carmel, CA and dated December 1937, with Bender's bookplate. Secondary inscription on pastedown to Agnes Ernst Meyer from Albert Bender.

Albert Bender was a noted patron and collector of the arts in the San Francisco Bay Area and helped support the careers of famous artists such as Ansel Adams and Diego Rivera; he was also a collector of fine art and rare books, many of which are in prominent museum collections such as the Smithsonian Institution and the San Francisco Art Museums.

Agnes Ernst Meyer was the mother of Washington Post editor, Katherine Graham, and was also a patron of the arts as well as a civic activist.
