Carr and Co., 1829. 4 volumes, 8vo. Half–titles, 4 folding facsimiles at rear in Volume IV reproducing Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence, lacking frontispiece in Volume I. Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, gilt fillets separating compartments, gilt–lettering and centerpieces in compartments (ex–library, lower compartment marred with library call numbers, library call numbers on title–pages, extremities a bit rubbed, modern library card pockets on front free endpapers, foxing throughout, some marginal penciling). Provenance: G.A. Prickett (contemporary ownership signature of an early Edwardsville, Illinois resident (1822–1897); Edwardsville Public Library Association (early library labels). FIRST EDITION, of the first collection of Jefferson’s papers edited by his eldest grandson. Randolph lived at Monticello and would later become the executor of Jefferson’s estate.
