JEHANDIR SABAVALA PORTRAIT OF NUDE MAN

Charcoal on paper. Signed and dated "Sabavala Paris '48" lower right corner. Jehangir Sabavala (India 1922-2011). Sabavala was born to an affluent Parsi family, earning a diploma in art at Mumbai's Sir J. J. School of art in 1944. From there, Sabaval studied at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, Academie Andre Lhote, Academie Julian, and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. This is an early pece,signed and Paris 1948 is mentioned under the signature. In 1948 he was studying at Academie Andre Lhote Paris ( 1948-1951) Measures 20" x 32 inches. Provenace" From the collectionof a Texas gentleman, purchased directly from the artist by present owner's father in Mumbai in the 1960's.
