Swiss watchmaking Jean-Francois Bautte was born in 1772 in Geneva. He was the son of enamel painter Abraham Bautte (circa 1745-1772) . Jean-Francois was orphaned early as a baby. He later began working for the case maker Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié (1761-1838) , where he learned the craft of case making. This was followed by training as an engine-turner, watchmaker and goldsmith. From 1791, the 19-year-old creates his first watches. Fine jewellery pocket watch. White enamel dial with fine black Roman numerals. Beautifully shaped, very fine blued hands. Black dotted minute scale. Engraved bezel. Decorative embellishments on the sides. Decorative eyelet. Back cover - outside with enamel medallion in blue. In the centre a star with a centre diamond and rhomboid diamonds in the star prongs. Inner cover also gold - Inscription: J. F. Bautte & Co a Geneve echappement a cylindre quarte trous rubis. (in capital letters) . Two holes for the winding and setting of the hands. Classic fine bridge movement with cylinder escapement - fire-gilded. The movement works. Key winding - the key is included.
