JFK Important Speech Draft For Nobel Prize Winners with Uses Jefferson, Adam Smith, & The Constitution

2pp, measuring 8.5" x 11", Boston, dated Ca. June 11, 1956. Speech draft notes written in John F. Kennedy's hand, written on a typed letter signed from John S. Gibson to Kennedy. The original letter was sent by Gibson to request a meeting in order to fact check for his upcoming book, "Politics and Foreign Policy". Kennedy's notes, written in pencil, ended up being used for his June 3, 1957 speech given for the graduating class at Syracuse University. The speech was given to Nobel prize winners https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/remarks-dinner-honoring-nobel-prize-winners-the-western-hemisphere April 29,1962 ,Approximately 140 words are written by Kennedy, with references to the merits of Thomas Jefferson, Senator Thomas H. Benton, Adam Smith, The Constitution, and political education in general. Reading in part:

"Politics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary."

"Thomas Jefferson: A gentleman of 32, who could calculate an eclipse, survey and estate, tie an artery, plan an edifice, try a cause, break a horse, dance a minuet, and play the violin…"

On Thomas H. Brown, "With a readiness that was often surprising, he could quote from a Roman Law or a Greek Philosopher, from Virgil's Georgics, The Arabian Nights, Herodotus or Sancho Panza, from the Sacred Carpets, the German reformers or Adam Smith; from Fenolon or Hudibras, from the financial reports of Mecca or the doings of the Council of Trent, from the debates on the adoption of the Constitution or the intrigues of the kitchen cabinet or from some forgotten speech of a deceased Member of Congress."

Kennedy loved Jefferson and one of the favorite quotes of any President was at a White House dinner: “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone”.

The document has flattened mail folds from the original letter and toning at the edges. Overall, very fine.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
