JOHN CARLIN (1813-1891) O/C GENRE SCENE

Family in an interior with water view beyond. Signed and dated 1879 lower right. In a good 19th century frame. Titled "Contentment." Tacked to replacement stretcher according to previous conservation by Yost Conservation in 1997; painting underneath purported to be Egyptian scene that Carlin tacked another canvas over and painted "Contentment" on, then signed and titled back of canvas with Egyptian scene on. Dimensions: (Frame) H 21.5" x W 25.75", (Painting) H 10" x W 14" Condition: With replacement stretcher. Craquelure visible throughout. Looks to possibly have been rolled at one time. Clean varnish, no noticeable restorations. Frame in overall good condition.
Condition: All the items in this auction remain at our gallery location in Norwalk, CT for pickup. Preview is by appointment, Monday-Friday, 9:30-4:30. Items must be picked up in the time frame of Tuesday, Wednesday December 1st- Friday, December 10th, 9am-5pm, WEEKDAYS.
