John Douglas was born in Kansas and has spent nearly all of his life in the American Southwest. He studied painting, drawing and other artistic media at Arizona State University on an art scholarship as well as some coursework in California. Douglas's creative influences stem from his interactions with the diversity in the landscape of the American Southwest. He has also drawn inspiration from modern artists such as Francis Bacon and Salvador Dali.
