Fantastic ALS, JQA, September 24, 1835 written to B. A. Gould and W. J. Loring "of the Boston Society for the diffusion of useful knowledge." Adams discusses the possibility of teaching the educational group, but would end up participating in a lecture 5 years after the writing of this fine ALS. The ALS is boldly signed by Adams as "J. Q. Adams". 7.75" x 10" In fine condition, with some staining, expected folds, minor tears.

I should take great pleasure in complying with your invitation to deliver one or more lectures before the Socity for the diffusion of useful knowledge and regret much that other engagements will render it impracticable.
I am with great respect, Gentlemen your obed't servant
J.Q. Adams"

John Quincy Adams was an American statesman, politician, diplomat, lawyer, and diarist who served as the sixth president of the United States, from 1825 to 1829. He previously served as the eighth United States secretary of state from 1817 to 1825.

The Boston Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (est. 1829) in Boston, Massachusetts, was founded "to promote and direct popular education by lectures and other means." Modeled after the recently formed Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in London, the Boston group's officers included Daniel Webster, Nathan Hale, Jacob Bigelow, William Ellery Channing, Edward Everett, Nathaniel L. Frothingham, and Abbott Lawrence.
