JUAN DE ARELLANO "Flower basket"

[ translate ]

Signed in the lower right corner The greatest exponent of Spanish flower painting in the 17th century, Arellano began with modest works of decorative and historical painting in the studio of Juan de Solis. Towards the 1930's he began to paint flowers, and in the 1950's he already had an active workshop with various assistants, among them presumably his sons and his son-in-law, Bartolomé Pérez. His works are influenced by the Flemish painting of Daniel Sheger and later by the Italian painting, especially that of his admired Mario Nuzzi. There are several examples of similar measurements in which he uses this horizontal format with the same basket of flowers on the stone plinth, among them the one preserved in the Herencia Remondo-Rioja Collection in Zaragoza (oil on canvas, 55 x 68 cm). .Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 69.8 x 57.5 cm
