Jacint Bofarull 1903–1977 Beristain / Todo Para Deporte vintage poster
Caption Brief: An illustrator and posterist, Bofarull was a politicized artist even before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War–he contributed to the important Barcelona satirical political journals La Esquella and Papitu. In 1939, he emigrated to France and like many of his fellow sympathizers after the war, lived abroad until 1960. None of his political leanings are to be found, however, in this promotion for the Barcelona department store and it’s line of sporting equipment and apparel. And even though these Art Deco triplets are as sharp as tacks and timeless with their angular sensibilities, it's unlikely that you’ll find much pipe smoking as an accessory to either golf or mountain climbing anymore.
